Instrument Bay 1 (A423C) houses the Bruker-AXS Smart 6000 CCD area detector system, as well as one locally designed Picker goniostat. The Bruker instrument is capable of collecting a complete data set in less than one day, with each set being as much as 16 gigabytes of raw data.

IBM PC control computers for the instruments in the bay are located on the table in front of the window. The crystallographer can easily manipulate the diffractometer from outside the bay while still having an unobstructed view.
