November, 2006. John Bollinger leaves the laboratory. He contributed in numerous ways to the success of the laboratory as excellent crystallographer and scientific programmer. We wish him the very best for his new career. January, 2005. New IUMSC site was launched, thanks to Ji-Young Chong and Maren Pink. August, 2003. The upgrade to V0.6.1 on the Reciprocal Net finally completed successfully. April, 2003. The IUMSC has been converted to the new Reciprocal Net system. The old database is no longer available. July, 2002. We are sad to announce that Dr. William E. Streib passed away. Bill was an outstanding crystallographer and contributed significantly to the evolution and growth of the IUMSC. His patient ability to tackle and solve problems will be missed. May, 2001. The frame image software under development by Kia Huffman is available. May, 2001. ScientificAmerican.com has selected this web site as a winner of one of this year's Sci/Tech Web Awards. Their editors reviewed hundreds of web sites and selected the 50 they deemed the most valuable as science and technology resources for their readers. The new look of the "Common Molecules" was designed by Ji-Young Chong and content was developed by numerous undergraduate students under the direction of Maren Pink. December, 2000. Former IUMSC Undergraduate Researcher Receives Recognition. The Rhodes Scholarship Trust named Indiana University senior Raju Raval, a native of Fort Wayne, one of 32 Rhodes Scholars nationwide in an announcement last month. Raju started his career at Indiana after his sophomore year of high school, working under the direction of Dr. John Bollinger and Dr. John Huffman in the Molecular Structure Center. He worked on a molecular visualization problem in the IUMSC as a participant in the Summer Science Institute, sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences. Raval was named a Wells scholar as an incoming freshman, and was named a Truman scholar earlier this year. A portion of the Truman award will allow him to serve an internship this summer at the National Cancer Institute in Washington, D.C. Raju plans to obtain a doctoral degree in molecular oncology at Oxford. November, 2000. The IUMSC Beowulf is now fully functional! Be sure to check it out. Local users can also submit XMView VORT files for processing from the graphics systems in the IUMSC. October, 2000. The rendered images from the JaMM2.0 applet are now being generated using a new Beowulf cluster in the IUMSC. Details to follow! July, 2000. The crystalcam and labcam are back on line (see links listed under October 6, 1999). May, 2000. The IUMSC WWW Server has been moved to new hardware. The home page has undergone some cosmetic revisions in the process, and a new and (hopefully) improved search interface has been implemented. The old interface is still available, but the new one is much faster and has improved features. Be sure to contact us with any comments you may have about the change. October, 1999. For a preview of the IUMSC Webcam rollout, try looking the SMART6000 bay, or look at the current crystal on the SMART6000. Look for these and other features to be fully incorporated in the next few months! August, 1999. Most of the tour is now usable, but bear with us on broken links. We are trying to either fix or eliminate them. The Common Molecules pages have a few new additions as well. August, 1999. Although the site is still chaotic, things are slowly improving! The laboratory tour, which as been broken since our operating system upgrade, is being slowly updated and corrected. Quite a bit of the information was out of date, so it needed a good cleaning up in any case. July, 1999. Work is slowly progressing on the various data indices. Please bear with us for a few more weeks! July, 1999. After considerable discussion we have abandoned the frames version of the opening pages for the IUMSC. Notice that we have a "new look" for the home page. Perhaps the most important improvement is the new JaMM2.0 applet now being incorporated, thanks to John C. Bollinger. The common molecules pages are being cleaned up and implemented by a host of helpers including Ronald Willis, Marc Kohli and Juan Jimenez. April, 1999. A great deal of "cleaning up" has been undertaken lately, and the new "common molecules" sections are being implemented. The JaMM applet has been fixed to take care of the most serious bugs.
